Chapter 1

Under the Shannon Mountain, Haizhou City, Haizhou Province

In September, after the the intense heat of summer , the autumn tiger comes into full swing., and the street was empty at noon. A few people under the tree at the side of the road are squabbling, and the dispute is getting louder and louder.

Among them was an old woman, and her arms were  holding a seven-year-old child who was crying for a long time.

On her left side, a Taoist priest with a long beard and a robes stood sideways. Despite the scorching sun, he had no trace of sweat, and his posture was a bit of a fairy.

On her right hand side, there are two young people, one of whom is wearing a whit gown. The two men anxiously said to the old woman: “Granny Yang, don't be muddled, if you insist on conducting Taoist rite with him instead of going to the hospital will only delay the child's condition!”

The long-beard priests looked askance at them, “Young people, I know that you are care about the child, but there are things in the world that you don't know yet.”

The one wearing a white coat is a medical student, an intern at the hospital, and an old neighbor of the old woman. He glared at him: “I know that you are cheating money!”

The other young man is the grandson of the old woman. He knows that his great aunt has always believed in Taoism, the regular Taoist temple — Xianglu temple that she usually goes to on the Xianglu Mountain near his home. There will never be such a persuasion that the patient will not go to the hospital. So he never object to her finding a spiritual sustenance .

But today, great aunt was actually deceived by this swindler sorcerer. He couldn't bear it, and began the accusation. “Auntie, when do you see the sacred priests on Xianglu temple let you only conduct Taoist rite without going to the hospital?”

The old woman hesitated. “But this Taoist priest is very powerful. You didn't know it. When he saw the face of Yuan Yuan, he figured out that his parents died in a car accident when he was a child. And did you see the symptoms of Yuan Yuan? he is possessed by evil, isn't he? Crying and laughing, over and over again, he even hit people sometimes. The hospital didn't cure Yuan Yuan, it is better to rely on theurgy .”

"Granny Yang !" The intern said loudly, "This is the performance of mental disorders. It's not evil. The medical standard of the hospital you went to last time is not good. Let's change to a top hospital this time!"

He wanted to take Granny Yang away from the scene, and the Taoist priest reached out and blocked it.

“What is happening , Yang?”

At the moment, a familiar voice sounded.

The young man looked back and relieved. The person appeared was Priest Zhao , who was very familiar with his aunt. He seemed to have just gone out, followed by a handsome boy wearing a light blue robe, he looks like a newcomer because Yang doesn't know him .

“Mr. Zhao! Yuan Yuan had a fight with his cla.s.smates at school a few days ago. This swindler insists that Yuan Yuan was haunted, saying if Granny Yang is willing to do so-called supernatural rite, everything will be ceased . The noisome 'rite' costs eight hundred yuan each time! ”

Seeing Zhao, the Taoist who was deluding around the Xianglu Mountain was in a dilemma, but he still refuted for 'the righteousness':”The child went insane suddenly and I can see a ghostly image presenting in the middle of his forehead. It is because of the young age. He has low masculine energy and was entangled with evil! What a unlucky child, his parents died early. If he cannot pa.s.s through this misfortune, I'm afraid he is going to accompany with his mom and dad! "

Zhao Daochang just got to know the ins and outs of the matter, the interns and the Taoist began quarreling again. They all said that it was right for the children to go with themselves.

The old woman turned to Zhao for help, hoping that this familiar Taoist could give her some advice. In fact, her heart is very biased towards the unsolicited Taoist, After all, this man can foresee her story so accurately.

“Go to the hospital!”

“Conduct a religious ceremony!”

“Insomnia, send him to diagnosis!”

“Conduct a religious ceremony immediately!  Otherwise it's too late to dispel evil spirits!”

……

“I can cure the little boy.”

A clear voice suddenly sounded in the air, and the dispute was in stagnation.

People all looked at the vocalist – the newcomer priest, who stood behind Zhao .

He has outstanding appearance and  younger-than-aged baby face, his eyes are black and moist. there is a kind of beauty of innocent.

However, what could such a young man  do to cure a seriously ill boy ?

The little Taoist came out from Zhao's back and took out two certificates from the bag . “My name is Zhou Jinyuan, a huoju[1] Taoist. This is my Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor certificate.”

[1]Huoju: 火居householder priest

Taoist priests who can marry are called huoju or huoju daoshi火居道士. Ths term, literally meaning”living by the fire, ” distinguishes them from *Quan-zhen monastic Taoists. Secular Taoists perform rituals for clients on request as an occupation Taoist priests in present-day Taiwan(China) are all huoju. Most of them are affiliated with the Way of the Celestial Masters(*Tianshi dao), but many have second jobs. The expression huoju is probably based on the Buddhist compound huozhai 火宅("burning house”), referring to the ordinary, unenlightened realm in which defilements have not been subdued.

Everyone: “??”

Looking at everyone's face, the little Taoist added another sentence: “I am a Taoist doctor.”

don't know whether to look for a doctor or a Taoist?

Coincidentally, he is both a doctor and a Taoist priest, hallelujah!

Everyone: “………”

Both the intern and the swindler Taoist have a feeling of being choked, and they felt a little ridiculous. Priest Zhao is also surprised: “Shidi[2] Zhou, you have practiced  in medicine?”

[2]young disciple (of the same master) ; younger or junior male schoolmate

He and Zhou Jinyuan met for the first time. He only knew that this baby-faced Shidi came from Yingzhou Province. He is a young family member of Zhengyi Dao[3] who seems to be looking for a job in Haizhou.

[3]Zhengyi Dao ( Chinese: 正一道; pinyin : zhèngyī dào ), usually translated as Truth and Unity or Orthodox Unity is a Taoist movement from the strategic regrouping from the Yuan Dynasty of schools in the southern half of China around the sect of Longhu Mountain in Jiangxi.

Even if they are frequent guests of their Taoist temple , I have to say that on Zhou's age and his appearance, the words spit from his mouth do not convincing.

After a brief silence, the two sides opened their mouths.

“Little friends, what do you know…”

Where did this business s.n.a.t.c.her come from?! The long-beard priest thought.

“How old are you, where is the medical pract.i.tioner certificate?”

Is this a joke? A doctor plus Taoist priest, moreover, a mysterious traditional Chinese medicine doctor… It sounds even less reliable!

Besides, ordinary graduates can only get access to the medical certificate examination after  one-year working experience, and the pa.s.s rate statistics is low. He got "certificate" while such young-age-looking… Maybe he is another liar? The intern wandered.

No one would believe him, let alone the old lady. Because this boy is too young.

For a moment, everyone ignored the stripling and continued to confront each other.

Zhou Jinyuan was not peeved at all. He just approached the kid and touched his hand. He looked harmless, and when the old lady just wanted to ask him what he was doing, her mind was drove away by confrontation.

Zhou Jinyuan pushed a finger down to the child's thumb and then to the back of his palm. At last, he ma.s.saged acupoints under the earlobe and behind the neck. The movement of his hand was soft and rhythmic.

And with his ingenious and gentle movements, the little boy who was constantly screaming and crying was gradually quiet!

This change made the scene slowly fall into silence, and the people who argued looked at him strangely, and there was only bleak scream of autumn Cicadas .

Until the old woman broke the silence: “Yuan… Yuan Yuan? Are you okay?”

The child's eyes are still dull, drooling, and there is no response to Grandma's words,  he seemed like lives in his own world.

However, it is much better than before, at least he is finally quiet!

This improvement is obviously due to the Taoist priest named Zhou Jinyuan.

In the face of the excitement of the old lady, the surprise and confusion of others, Zhou Jinyuan explained with pride: “I just sealed his a few acupuncture points of "the thirteen ghosts" [4], . The ghost has nowhere to hide.”

[4]The 13 ghost acupuncture points are part of an obscure and esoteric tradition in Chinese medicine. They were developed in the 6th Century by a doctor called Sun Si Miao to address disturbances that were attributed to demonic possession. Disorders such as seizures, mania, confusion and nightmares were thought to have a spiritual origin and therefore required a spiritual solution. The 13 ghost points were said to transcend time and s.p.a.ce and help a soul find their place in the cosmos.

So that is what it is. Men cannot be judged by their looks. The little priest is actually a very capable and talented person!

The old woman is better convinced:  The two sides fought for a long time, but they didn't do any good until the little priests showed up. What he said about the ghosts and evil spirits are clear and logical, it isn't a makeshift fabrication.

As for other people, let's not talk about the medic intern and his friend–The long-beard priests who can't help but tremble: Holy sh*t! The kid was really haunted!.

Although Zhou is young, he came with Priest Zhao, and he is versatile, the old lady immediately transferred reliance to a third party. “Please help us, your honor! Exorcise my Yuan Yuan!”

“Don't worry,” Zhou Jinyuan's tone calmed the old woman. He took out the needles that he carried with him from the bag. “Kepp it easy, I'll use acupuncture again to pa.s.s the yang through your boy's meridians and dispel the evil. He will soon be good.”

Although the intern and his friend had just bluffed by Zhou , they still felt that Zhou's act is not dependable. They wanted to stop him. Unexpectedly, Zhou Jinyuan raised his hand and squeezed them twice on their shoulders. Suddenly their arms are not working, it's weird.

Don't talk about stopping Zhou Jinyuan again, they can't hold their cell phone even if they want to call the police.

Zhao also wanted to stop his Shidi, but he didn't dare to approach when he saw what happened to them.

“Priest Zhao , you will let him help my grandson, right? Are you not together?” The old woman glared at Zhao , fearing that he would not allow Zhou to exorcise evil spirits.

Zhao said hastily: “He is only my guest .”

Old woman: That is better.jpg

He's even more reliable because he knows the host.

Priest  Zhao : “…”

Zhou Jinyuan turned a deaf ear to help the child sit on the ground and treat him on the spot. He touched the pulse first, then pressed him in a few places on him for a while before disinfecting.

Then Zhou condense the Qi [5], then slant into the needle at these acupoints, puncture a part and then raise it a little, and puncture it again. This is repeated several times, and the whole needle process takes several minutes.

[5]In traditional Chinese culture, qi or ch'i (simplified Chinese: 气; traditional Chinese: 氣; pinyin: qì) is believed to be a vital force forming part of any living ent.i.ty. Qi translates as “air” and figuratively as “material energy”, “life force”, or “energy flow”. Qi is the central underlying principle in Chinese traditional medicine and in Chinese martial arts.

The child is dull, and there is no reaction to the sense of acupuncture. Zhou Jinyuan feels the yang of the hand. One hand and the other hand are mudrasing.

After the acupuncture, Zhou Jinyuan packed up his belongings and told the lady: “Let the needle stay inside for a while, the yang is still running.”

He looked relaxed, as if he was just Lift a finger. He satiricaly said: “By the way, who said that the child is catastrophic, I saw that although he is young and b.u.mpy, he is very healthy, and there is no danger in his life. It is a greed for some people. Madam, don't believe these wild-horse Taoist from nowhere."

Long-Mustache: “…”

The old woman looked up and down at the “wild Taoist”.

Oh, he's quite like a horse…

The wild Taoist's mouth is pumping, and he has to keep a high-spirited style. Hesneered: "Don't be an armchair strategist, I'm going to see what you can do with this little boy."

Such a big boy like Zhou, how capable can he be. He's been around for years, just been caught for a while, nothing matters him.

At most, this boy used some tricks he didn't know. Everyone was a liar, and he is not going to become a toy.

Boasting himself so hard, is he not afraid fall down to the ground? the fraud priests standing in the shade of the tree, eager to see how this small peer can exorcise.

The medic intern looked at Zhou Jinyuan's anxiously, and could not stop him. Just now,  Zhou Jinyuan made quite a surprise, but he didn't fully convinced. He is worrying about the child.

——He always felt that the treatment system of Chinese medicine is sacred, especially fantasy. Acupuncture, however, does has some effects. His teacher in the internship unit sometimes asks acupuncturist to consult.

But the premise must be there a serious doctor, do you think this little priest is like a real doctor? What yang exorcism, ghost points, as phony as his certificates.

But something happened that made his jaw drop. About ten minutes later, Yuan Yuan suddenly squatted and his eyes turned, his eyes became clear. After looking aroud for a while, he shouted softly: “Grandma, I am thirsty.”

His tone and his expression is normal, his mind is clear, and none can't think of it ten minutes ago he still smirked and crying, and he did not respond to the outside world for several days.

Others were surprised first, then they were cold.

Oh my G.o.d, is it true that evils do exist, otherwise how should this situation be explained?

The old woman was ecstatic. After her grandson was “haunted”, he did not respond to the outside world at all. He would not be hungry, and his urine would be pulled on his trousers. Now she even recognizes her and knows that she is thirsty!

Looking at it this way, isn't he normal?

Zhou Jinyuan was not surprised at all. He calmly said: “Grandma don't touch the needle when you feed him water. I will take the needle out later.”

“Okay, good!” The old woman gave the child water while thanking the teenager. “Priest Zhou, thank you, thank you very much! This, how do I say… you are so amazing!”

Be bewitched in such a disease is not so optimistic in the hospital, a needle shot goes down, the evil spirits are driven away!

The long-mustache priest felt both magical and a bit stunned.

The interns and young people were also in a daze, and their minds could not be turned over for a while.

The young man shouted: “No… No way, was Yuan Yuan really evil?”

Zhou Jinyuan looked at him inexplicably:

“Of course not, I told you I've got the doctor's certificate, didn't I? It is just a acupuncture treatment.”

“From the Chinese medicine, this child has epilepsy, and I don't know what  stimulated him in the school. I have acupuncture points such as Neiguan, Renzhong, Sanyinjiao, and Quanquan, and lighten up his wit hearts for him. Hearts are reopened, naturally he was healed immediately. What Thirteen ghosts, it is somehow superst.i.tion but are effective methods of clinical symptoms.

“I said that the exorcism is to appease the old lady, how do you believe?”

Looking at Zhou Jinyuan's arrogant look, the young man's face is blue.

Dame, because your so convinced look made us stunned. You were also so capable of  changing your face.

Moreover, the medic himself has never seen such an immediate effect of Chinese medicine pract.i.tioners. The whole process is only fifteen minutes, and the patients who have been crazy now is healed!

Zhou Jinyuan's words are very clear. Although the principle of treatment is not understood,  grandma Yang already knows that the rhetoric just said meant to make she willing to accept treatment. There is no evil in it. The child is sick, and the doctor what really healed her grandson is medical skill

Looking at the wild Taoist, it can be said that the pressure of him is as heavy as a  mountain , he cannot pretend the sacred wind bones anymore and escaped under the glare of Grandma Yang .

The old woman took a sigh of relief against his back. Fortunately, she recorded the name and mobile phone number of the liar, and she had to expose him.

Priest Zhao is very embarra.s.sed. He was worried extremely. Who could foresee that it will be such an ending. He blushed : “That, I didn't expect twenty-one-year-old Shidi Zhou has such splendid leechcraft .”

The old woman snorted:”Really, you are 21? I thought you are only sixteen or seventeen years old!”

Zhou Jinyuan's smile stiffed for a moment, "…"

The so-called old doctors and young fortune-teller, everyone loves to find old and experienced doctors. But he is not only young, but also a baby face.It is a great loss of him.

Even if he is not sixteen or seventeen, the age of twenty-one is very small. The intern thought to himself, “I didn't expect acupuncture to work so well and take effect so quickly." The acupuncturist his teacher called in was inferior to him.

It is also because of this that he was really confused.

However, he also suddenly remembered that if the certificate of traditional Chinese medicine is verified, it is not necessary to go to medical school to get the license of practicing physician, and those who study under the guidance of teachers can also get the license of practicing physician, which is probably a very early learning.

The internship grew a sigh of relief. Today is a long long day. He is determined to go back and search for the thirteen ghosts. He may decide to use it later.

The intern touched his arm and said to Zhou Jinyuan: “Seriously, your acting skills are so good, the treatment effect is so fast, I have never seen it before, I almost believe there was a ghost exists.”

Zhou Jinyuan glanced at the intern and patted the robe then said, “You are learning Western medicine, and you should have a firm belief. Don't be more superst.i.tious than me.”

Intern: “You! %¥#*…………”…Dame it, never mind.
