Clangs could be heard in Majima's workshop. Inside an 8-year-old Terry was watching as Majima a.s.semble a new exosuit, although Terry would usually watch quietly he was currently very frustrated. Terry was an average height for a kid his age, more streaks appeared in his black hair and his grey sparkled with energy but right now he was using a coat hanger to itch under his bracers."Higa I hate my bracers, they're so itchy and uncomfortable." Even after all these years Majima's nickname still persevered,"Well, kid you wouldn't need to wear them if you could control your quirk,""But it's so difficult, it's like trying to eat noodles with a spoon taped to my pinky." Terry pouted."Terry, you do know that you have to practice to control your quirk right?""I can't because Seth won't let me, he says I'm gonna blow up the house." Majima didn't doubt that Terry was capable of doing just that."Alright kid come here, I'll loosen your limiter and you can practice in the corner over there." Terry's face lit and as soon as his bracer was adjusted he went straight to practice. In truth, he could already change the limiter himself but Majima seems to always find out if he tampered with his limiters and made it harder to change every time. Eventually, the difficulty ramped up to the point where Terry could no longer be bothered to even attempt to hack it, he could crack it but it took way too long. Also, Majima seemed to be almost disappointed to find out that Terry didn't hack into his limiters.With his limiters off, Terry got into to practice controlling his quirk. Usually, Terry could only control a small sliver of his energy which only resulted in some sparks as well as making him release a bit more heat than usual. But now he can manage a lot more.On his first attempt, he tried to summon a good amount of electricity which resulted in tendrils of electricity flying all across the workshop."What the h.e.l.l Terry!" Majima cried out as his spanner was suddenly electrified which sent him flying into a wall. After half an hour Terry got back to practice, but only after Majima constructed a faraday cage around him.This time Terry decided to start a little smaller, this time he caused snakes of electricity to travel between his palms. After an hour of toiling, he managed to condense the multiple streaks of electricity into one large tendril between his hands. However, it suddenly blinked out of life and Terry felt extremely empty and his bright grey eyes turned dull. Worry filled him as he now could only manage a few meagre sparks."Higa my quirk won't work properly anymore." Terry cried towards Majima."Hmm, it seems you used all of your energy. "I'm not sure, it depends on where your quirk gets your energy from. Anyway, Seth is gonna pick you up soon so you can practice more tomorrow." Terry nodded sadly, but in his mind, he was brainstorming on how to further test how his quirk's, Battery, functions.2 years laterRight now Terry was sat cross-legged in the faraday cage while surrounded by various batteries, clicking could be heard as electricity sparked to life between his fingers. He continued like this for a couple more minutes until he managed to create a small flame. Terry found out a year ago that he could oxidise the air and create tiny flames and if he fed energy directly into those flames he could sustain the fire without the need for fuel. The problem was timing to input his energy after lighting the air as the flames only last for a fraction of a second.In these 2 years, Terry and Majima deduced how Terry's quirk worked. He stored energy over time by absorbing it from the environment or the chemical energy in food or batteries which is then converted into a sort of pseudo energy. They decided to call this type of energy Potential because it can be turned into other energy types such as thermal, light, electrical or infusing objects with kinetic energy but not nuclear, elastic or gravitational. However, they found that Terry himself couldn't store a lot of energy and the only reasons he can blow is that he taps into the stored energy in his bracers, but over the years his personal storage s.p.a.ce increased as he practised. They deduced that Terry's capacity is big enough explosion to blow up a 2 storey house."Higa I did it! I did it." A vein bulged on Majima's forehead,"TERRY!!"2 years laterTerry was lying on his bed, his eyes were puffy and red, he curled himself up in his covers and ignored Seth's knocks on the door."Alright, Terry I'm coming in." Seth walked into the room and sat at the side of Terry's bed and patted him softly,"I made your favourite cake, come downstairs and we can have it together." Terry didn't reply to his coaxing."Terry do you want to talk about it," Seth asked, Terry was silent before saying,"It's not fair! They started it so why do I get suspended for a week?" Seth sighed.Today at school the boys were talking about their favourite heroes, naturally, Terry said Ryuko who was now a big name in the hero scene as her ratings were high and that she just opened her own office this year. Her popularity recently boomed due to how cleanly she finishes a job and how she's active in both taking down villains and helping people in natural disasters. She was like a breath of fresh air in a scene full of macho men and who only care about embracing the glorious springtime of youth.However, the other boys didn't share the same sentiment as they said Ryuko was nowhere near as strong as the top heroes like All might and Endeavour. Terry could deal with comments like that but one jerk kid spouted out that,"She's no good and she looks like a monster. If you ask me she looks more like a villain than a hero! She should be locked for being so ugly!" The kid said to get a rise out of Terry, this was a usual occurrence as some of the kids dislike Terry due to his foreign appearance and the fact he gets good grades despite sleeping through the majority of his lessons. The other boys laughed while joining in and insulting Ryuko seeing Terry getting angered by their digs. This obviously incensed Terry, especially since he saw Ryuko as his sister and these kids were insulting his family to his face, it made him want to explode.Terry knew that using his quirk was a no go so he decided to settle on the next best thing, he grabbed the first kid and curb-stomped the little s.h.i.t. Outraged, all the other joined in against Terry and landing various blows on his body. Some secretly used their quirks to inflict extra damage as they felt this loser needed bringing down a peg.Terry was at his tipping point before causing electricity to surge in his fist before punching one kid in the neck. This caused the kid to fly back and spasm on the ground. The other boys were caught off guard by the sudden counterattack but before they could react Terry kept punching them with his electrified fists. Desperately they tried to gang up on Terry again but they couldn't figure out a way to defend against the taser punches until it was too late.Most of the boys were spasming on the ground before a teacher burst into the cla.s.sroom,"WHAT THE h.e.l.l IS GOING ON!"The fight was quickly dispersed and some of the boys on the floor were taken to the nurse while the rest were sent to the princ.i.p.al's office.This led to the princ.i.p.al calling all the boys parents in. Naturally, the group of boys claimed that Terry attacked them all out of nowhere and they just tried to defend themselves. Meanwhile, all the parents were livid that their precious babies were hurt in such a barbaric fashion, they claimed that Terry was a danger since he had to wear bracers to control his quirk and saying that he's unstable.Terry was p.i.s.sed at these wild claims and tried to retort with the truth but the parents were having none of it and they wanted to claim compensation from Seth. Seth, however, knew these kids were lying through their teeth. As an underground hero, you have to perform interrogations all the time and any hero worth their salt would be able to tell when a villain is lying. Seth was getting ticked off and was about to blow a gasket before a bunch of girls from Terry's cla.s.s burst into the office.They told the truth of what happened, that even though Terry did throw the first punch the boys did, in fact, provoke Terry into action and that they all ganged up on Terry by beating him to ground which gave him no choice but to use his quirk. The girls were happy that Terry said Ryuko was his favourite hero, Ryuko was a role model for a lot of young girls so they were angered when that bratty kid insulted their favourite hero. After the girls' intervened, they were chastised before being ushered out by the princ.i.p.al who's migraines came back with full force.The parents hearing the testimony of the other kids were embarra.s.sed at their previous actions and angry at their own children for lying. After a bit more arguing the group of boys are going to be suspended for 3 days while Terry getting suspended for a week for initiating the fight and using his quirk. Even though some of the other boys used their quirks no one could identify them due to the chaos.The fact that Terry constantly gets singled out in school is taking it's toll. Nowadays he smiles a lot less and when he does it's strained, he always spends time in Majima's workshop when he can and the fact that Terry's only friend is Patch. He tries his best to avoid socialising except with his family.Seth pulled the covers off the boy to see his crying face. Seth wished Maria was still here, when either he or Viktor was upset she always had the right words to say at hand. She was like a surgeon with her words and with a few simple sentences she could turn a bad day into a great day. Terry was trying to finalise the designs on his arm cannon. Despite gaining more control over his quirk it's still hard to manage the output of his energy. Sometimes it trickles out like a leak or burst out, it takes way too much concentration to manage his energy. To combat this he designed a hand cannon that he got inspiration from one of those old video games that Seth is crazy about. The concept is that all he needs to do is fill it up like a water gun and the cannon itself will handle the output.This is not the only thing he managed to accomplish either. He managed to control his quirk to point where he no longer spontaneously combust so he could condense his bulky bracers down to a single bracelet that will act as a limiter just in case he does lose control. Also, he put some upgrades into Patch so his combat form has a lot more bite as well as firepower and that Patch can now shrink down into a pup form. This allows Patch to travel conveniently with Terry with the added benefit of being irresistibly cute.While adding some notes to some of his designs he heard the sound of heels behind him,"Terry how come every time you stay in my office you somehow find a way to make a mess of it?""I dunno, maybe my heaven-defying talent is to make a horrendous mess of your works.p.a.ce," Terry replied in a flat tone which earned him a small smack on the back of his head. Ryuko sat on the ground and leaned her back against Terry's before asking,"So what weapons of ma.s.s irritation are you working on today,""I'll have you know not all my inventions are for pranks, some of them are for a social experiment," Terry retorted which cause Ryuko to snort. After some more small talk, Ryuko knocked the back of her head against Terry's before asking,"So have you decided which high school your gonna apply to,""Not sure I'll decide later,""Seriously aren't you going to graduate in a couple of months," Ryuko admonished Terry."When are you gonna marry Seth, at the rate your both going Seth is gonna retire to the countryside before you both decide to tie the knot." A vein bulged on Ryuko's forehead before she leapt on Terry and jabbing his sides,"Haha, you're a real joker aren't ya," She continued hara.s.sing Terry a bit more before giving him mercy."We're both too busy at the moment, I have my office to run and Seth is opening his new restaurant. So it isn't the best time for anything like marriage at the moment.""I know that it's just that you two have been engaged for longer than you've been dating and Seth isn't getting younger. Who knows when he'll kick the bucket." Both of them laughed and joked for a while, especially poking fun at Seth's funny knee. The man in question suddenly felt very annoyed and decided that it felt right to add extra chilli flakes in Ryuko's and Terry's meals tonight.After tidying up his blueprints Terry said,"I'm gonna apply to UA," Ryuka was caught off guard before smiling,"Ara ara what brought this on? This is the first I've heard of you wanting to become a hero.""Well, I always wanted to be a hero, especially when I used to see you in action. Ever since I was little I looked up to you and Seth and I thought you both were so cool. So I decided that I wanted to be a hero as well." Terry monologued while blushing, Ryuko almost burst into tears that her little brother looked up to her so much. She looked over the young man in front of her and she finally realised the energetic little boy, who blew things up and slept on her lap every chance he got, has grown up. All of his baby fat has disappeared and he grew taller than her to the point he could rest his head atop of hers.Ryuko brought Terry into a tight hug before repeating the words Seth said to her all those years ago,"Don't worry Terry with or without our help you'll definitely become a fantastic hero." Terry smiled as he tightened his embrace around her,"Thanks, nee-chan," They stayed like that for a couple more moments before separating and Ryuko saying,
